iddah
Iddah is a waiting period that a Muslim woman observes after the end of her marriage, either due to divorce or the death of her husband. This period typically lasts for three menstrual cycles or, if the woman is pregnant, until she gives birth. The purpose of iddah is to determine whether the woman is pregnant and to allow time for emotional healing.
During iddah, a woman is expected to refrain from remarrying and to stay in her home. This practice is rooted in Islamic teachings and aims to ensure clarity regarding lineage and to provide a respectful transition for the woman after the end of her marriage.
