The hooded seal is a marine mammal found primarily in the North Atlantic Ocean. Known for its distinctive large, inflatable nasal cavity, males can expand this feature to create a "hood" during mating displays. They typically weigh between 300 to 600 pounds and can grow up to 7.5 feet long. Hooded seals are excellent swimmers, using their powerful flippers to navigate through icy waters. They primarily feed on fish and squid, diving to depths of over 1,500 feet in search of food. These seals are also known for their unique breeding habits, often giving birth on sea ice during the spring months.
