goaltender
A goaltender, often referred to as a goalie, is a player in sports like hockey and soccer whose primary role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Positioned in front of the goal, the goaltender uses their body, stick, or gloves to block shots and keep the ball or puck out of the net.
In ice hockey, goaltenders wear specialized equipment, including pads, a helmet, and a blocker, to protect themselves and enhance their ability to stop fast-moving pucks. In soccer, goalkeepers use their hands within the penalty area and are crucial for organizing the defense and initiating counterattacks.
