free-motion quilting
Free-motion quilting is a sewing technique that allows quilters to create intricate designs by moving the fabric freely under the sewing machine's needle. Unlike traditional quilting, where the fabric is fed in a straight line, this method enables the quilter to guide the fabric in any direction, resulting in unique patterns and textures.
To perform free-motion quilting, a special foot called a darning foot or free-motion foot is used, which lifts the presser foot to allow for unrestricted movement. Quilters often practice on scrap fabric to develop their skills before working on their final projects, enhancing both creativity and precision.
