foot anatomy
The human foot consists of 26 bones, which are categorized into three sections: the hindfoot, midfoot, and forefoot. The hindfoot includes the talus and calcaneus, while the midfoot contains five bones called the navicular, cuboid, and three cuneiform bones. The forefoot is made up of the five metatarsal bones and 14 phalanges that form the toes.
In addition to bones, the foot has numerous ligaments, tendons, and muscles that provide support and enable movement. The arch of the foot plays a crucial role in weight distribution and shock absorption. Proper foot anatomy is essential for balance, mobility, and overall body alignment.
