facial skeleton
The facial skeleton is the collection of bones that form the structure of the face. It consists of 14 bones, including the maxilla, mandible, nasal bones, and zygomatic bones. These bones provide shape, support, and protection for the facial features, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth.
In addition to giving the face its form, the facial skeleton plays a crucial role in functions like chewing and speaking. The mandible, or lower jaw, is the only movable bone in the facial skeleton, allowing for the opening and closing of the mouth.
