electric eels
Electric eels are a type of knifefish found in the freshwater rivers and streams of South America. They can grow up to 8 feet long and are known for their ability to generate electric shocks, which they use for hunting and self-defense.
These fish have specialized cells called electrocytes that produce electricity. Electric eels can emit bursts of electricity that can reach up to 600 volts, allowing them to stun prey or deter predators. Despite their name, they are not true eels but are more closely related to catfish and carps.
