dial-up
Dial-up is an early method of connecting to the internet using a standard telephone line. It works by converting digital data from a computer into analog signals that can travel over phone lines. When a user wants to connect, their computer dials a specific phone number to reach an Internet Service Provider (ISP), establishing a connection.
This type of internet connection is relatively slow compared to modern options, with speeds typically ranging from 56 Kbps to 128 Kbps. Because it uses a phone line, users cannot make phone calls while connected to the internet, which can be inconvenient.
