chrysalises
A chrysalis is a protective casing that some insects, like butterflies and moths, form during their life cycle. It is the stage between the larva, or caterpillar, and the adult insect. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar undergoes a remarkable transformation called metamorphosis, where its body is restructured to become a butterfly or moth.
Chrysalises can vary in color and texture, often blending in with their surroundings to avoid predators. This stage can last from a few days to several months, depending on the species and environmental conditions. Once the transformation is complete, the adult insect emerges from the chrysalis ready to fly.
