A chrysalis is a special stage in the life cycle of a butterfly or moth. After a caterpillar grows and eats enough, it forms a protective shell around itself, called a chrysalis. Inside this shell, the caterpillar undergoes a remarkable transformation, changing into a beautiful butterfly. This process is known as metamorphosis.
During the time it spends in the chrysalis, the caterpillar's body breaks down and reorganizes into the structures of a butterfly. This stage can last from a few days to several weeks, depending on the species. Once the transformation is complete, the chrysalis splits open, and a new butterfly emerges, ready to take flight and explore the world.
