cervical spinal cord
The cervical spinal cord is the uppermost part of the spinal cord, located in the neck region. It consists of eight segments, labeled C1 to C8, and is responsible for transmitting signals between the brain and the rest of the body. This section of the spinal cord controls various functions, including movement and sensation in the arms, hands, and upper body.
In addition to its role in motor and sensory functions, the cervical spinal cord also plays a crucial part in reflex actions. It is protected by the vertebrae of the cervical spine and is surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid, which helps cushion and support it.
