beatification
Beatification is a recognition by the Catholic Church that a deceased person lived a life of heroic virtue and is now in heaven. This process is a step toward sainthood, allowing the individual to be honored and venerated by the faithful. A miracle attributed to the person's intercession is usually required for beatification.
Once beatified, the individual is given the title of Blessed and may be commemorated in specific regions or communities. The final step to becoming a saint, known as canonization, requires a second miracle. Beatification helps inspire the faithful to emulate the virtues of the Blessed.
