autografts
An autograft is a type of tissue transplant where a piece of tissue is taken from one part of a person's body and moved to another part. This method is often used in surgeries to repair damaged tissues, such as skin, bone, or cartilage. Since the tissue comes from the same individual, the risk of rejection is significantly lower compared to transplants from other donors.
Common uses of autografts include reconstructive surgeries after injuries or surgeries like skin grafts for burn victims. In orthopedic procedures, such as ACL reconstruction, a piece of tendon may be harvested from the patient's knee to replace the damaged ligament.
