all-wheel drive
All-wheel drive (AWD) is a vehicle system that distributes power to all four wheels simultaneously. This enhances traction and stability, especially in challenging conditions like rain, snow, or off-road terrain. AWD systems can be either full-time, where all wheels receive power continuously, or part-time, where power is sent to the rear wheels only when needed.
Many modern vehicles, including SUVs and crossovers, come equipped with AWD to improve performance and safety. Unlike four-wheel drive (4WD), which is typically designed for off-road use, AWD is optimized for on-road driving and can automatically adjust power distribution based on road conditions.
