Zhang Qian
Zhang Qian was a Chinese explorer and diplomat during the Han Dynasty, known for his significant role in establishing the Silk Road. He was sent on missions to the western regions of China around 139 BCE to seek alliances against the Xiongnu tribes. His travels helped to open trade routes and cultural exchanges between China and Central Asia.
Zhang Qian's journeys lasted over a decade, during which he visited various kingdoms, including Bactria and Parthia. His reports on the geography, cultures, and goods of these regions provided valuable information that influenced Chinese foreign policy and trade, laying the groundwork for future interactions along the Silk Road.
