Zenaida macroura
Zenaida macroura, commonly known as the mourning dove, is a medium-sized bird found throughout North America. It has a slender body, long tail, and soft gray-brown plumage, which helps it blend into its surroundings. Mourning doves are known for their distinctive cooing calls, which sound mournful and are often heard during the breeding season.
These birds primarily feed on seeds, foraging on the ground or in open areas. They are social creatures, often seen in pairs or small flocks. Mourning doves are also known for their impressive flying abilities, capable of reaching speeds up to 55 miles per hour.
