Zapatista Army
The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) is a revolutionary group based in southern Mexico, primarily in the state of Chiapas. Founded in 1994, the EZLN gained international attention for its uprising against the Mexican government, coinciding with the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The group advocates for indigenous rights, land reform, and social justice.
The Zapatistas are known for their distinctive use of media and communication, often utilizing the internet to share their message globally. Their leader, Subcomandante Marcos, became a prominent figure, symbolizing the movement's fight against neoliberal policies and advocating for autonomy and self-determination for indigenous communities.
