Zao Jun
Zao Jun, also known as the Kitchen God, is a figure in Chinese folklore who is believed to oversee the household's cooking and family well-being. Traditionally, he is depicted as a deity who reports on the family's behavior to the Jade Emperor, the ruler of heaven. Families often honor him by placing his image in the kitchen and offering sacrifices, especially before the Lunar New Year.
During the New Year celebrations, it is customary for families to send Zao Jun back to heaven by burning his image, which symbolizes a farewell. This act is meant to ensure that he delivers a favorable report about the family's conduct over the past year.
