Zacharias Kunuk
Zacharias Kunuk is an Inuit filmmaker and artist from Igloolik, Nunavut, Canada. He is best known for his groundbreaking film, Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner, which won the prestigious Caméra d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Kunuk's work often focuses on Inuit culture, history, and storytelling, using traditional narratives to connect with contemporary audiences.
In addition to filmmaking, Kunuk is involved in various artistic projects and initiatives that promote Inuit culture and language. He co-founded the production company Isuma, which aims to create and distribute Indigenous media. Kunuk's contributions have significantly impacted the representation of Indigenous peoples in cinema.
