Young Tableaux
Young Tableaux are combinatorial objects used in the field of representation theory and combinatorics. They represent a way to visualize partitions of integers and are constructed using a grid of boxes, where each box contains a positive integer. The numbers must increase across each row and down each column, adhering to specific rules that define their structure.
These tableaux are named after the mathematician Alfred Young, who introduced them in the early 20th century. Young Tableaux play a crucial role in understanding symmetric functions and Schur functions, as well as in the study of Young diagrams, which are graphical representations of partitions.
