Yoshida no Shōnagon
Yoshida no Shōnagon was a Japanese author and court lady during the Heian period (794-1185). She is best known for her work, The Pillow Book (Makura no Sōshi), a collection of essays, lists, and anecdotes that provide insight into court life and the aesthetics of the time. Her writing is characterized by its wit, observation, and appreciation for beauty.
Shōnagon served the Empress Teishi and was a contemporary of Sei Shonagon, another prominent figure of the era. Her work reflects the cultural and social dynamics of the Heian court, showcasing her keen observations on nature, relationships, and daily life.
