Yard of Bricks
The "Yard of Bricks" is a section of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that features a distinctive brick surface. This area, measuring one yard wide, is located at the start/finish line of the Indianapolis 500 race. It is a historic symbol of the speedway, representing its long-standing tradition in auto racing.
Originally, the entire track was paved with bricks when it opened in 1909. Over time, most of the track was repaved, but the Yard of Bricks remains as a tribute to the past. Drivers often kiss the bricks after winning the race, honoring the legacy of the Indianapolis 500.
