Yang Jian
Yang Jian was a prominent figure in Chinese history, known for founding the Sui Dynasty in 581 AD. He was originally a general and later became the emperor, ruling until 604 AD. His reign is marked by significant reforms, including the unification of China after a long period of division.
Under Yang Jian's leadership, the Sui Dynasty implemented major infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Grand Canal, which improved trade and transportation. However, his ambitious projects and heavy taxation led to widespread discontent, ultimately contributing to the dynasty's downfall shortly after his death.
