Wright brothers' first flight
On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, achieved the first powered flight in history at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Their aircraft, the Flyer, was a biplane with a wingspan of 40 feet 4 inches. Orville piloted the first flight, which lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet.
The Flyer made a total of four flights that day, with the longest reaching 852 feet in 59 seconds, piloted by Wilbur. This groundbreaking event marked the beginning of the era of aviation, demonstrating that controlled, powered flight was possible.
