The World Heritage Committee is a body established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to oversee the implementation of the World Heritage Convention. This committee is responsible for selecting and designating sites of outstanding cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of humanity, ensuring their protection and preservation for future generations.
Comprising representatives from 21 of the States Parties to the Convention, the committee meets annually to evaluate nominations for new World Heritage Sites. It also monitors the state of conservation of existing sites, promoting international cooperation in heritage preservation efforts worldwide.
