Winged Victory of Samothrace
The Winged Victory of Samothrace is a famous ancient Greek sculpture that represents the goddess Nike, the personification of victory. Created around 190 BC, it was discovered on the island of Samothrace in the Aegean Sea. The statue is notable for its dynamic pose and intricate drapery, which convey a sense of movement and triumph.
Standing at about 8 feet tall, the sculpture is made of marble and was originally placed on a pedestal in a way that suggested it was alighting on a ship. Today, it is housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it remains one of the most celebrated works of ancient art.
