Wing Back
A "Wing Back" is a position in soccer (or football) that combines the roles of a defender and a midfielder. Wing backs typically play on the left or right flanks of the field and are responsible for both defending against opposing players and supporting offensive plays. They often overlap with wingers to create scoring opportunities and provide width to the team's formation.
In modern formations, such as the 3-5-2 or 5-3-2, wing backs are crucial for maintaining balance between defense and attack. They need to be fast, agile, and skilled at crossing the ball, as they frequently deliver passes into the penalty area for forwards to score.
