Wimbledon FC
Wimbledon FC was a professional football club based in Wimbledon, London, founded in 1889. The team played its home matches at Plough Lane and became known for its unique identity and strong community ties. Wimbledon FC gained prominence in the 1980s and 1990s, notably winning the FA Cup in 1988, which was a significant achievement for a club outside the traditional football elite.
In 2004, due to financial difficulties, the club was restructured and relocated to Milton Keynes, leading to the formation of Milton Keynes Dons. Meanwhile, a new club, AFC Wimbledon, was established by former fans of Wimbledon FC to preserve the original club's legacy and community spirit.
