Williamite
The term "Williamite" refers to the supporters of William of Orange, who became King of England in 1689 after the Glorious Revolution. This movement aimed to overthrow King James II due to his Catholic faith and perceived tyranny. The Williamites were primarily Protestant and sought to establish a constitutional monarchy in England.
The Williamite War in Ireland (1689-1691) was a significant conflict between the Williamites and the supporters of James II, known as the Jacobites. The war ended with the defeat of the Jacobites, solidifying Williamite control in England and leading to the Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland.
