William Kieft
William Kieft was the director of the Dutch colony of New Netherland from 1638 to 1647. He is best known for his controversial policies and conflicts with the local Native American tribes, particularly the Lenape. Kieft's leadership style was often seen as authoritarian, leading to tensions within the colony.
During his tenure, Kieft initiated the Kieft's War against the Native Americans, which resulted in significant loss of life and resources. His administration faced criticism from colonists, ultimately leading to his recall to the Netherlands in 1647. Kieft's legacy remains a complex part of New Netherland's history.
