William Cushing
William Cushing was an American jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1790 to 1810. Appointed by President George Washington, he was the first person to hold this position in the Supreme Court's history. Cushing played a significant role in shaping early American law and was known for his commitment to justice and fairness.
Born on March 1, 1732, in Scituate, Massachusetts, Cushing graduated from Harvard College in 1751. Before his Supreme Court appointment, he served as a judge in the Massachusetts Superior Court and was involved in various legal and political matters during the American Revolution. Cushing passed away on September 13, 1810.
