William Cox
William Cox was an Australian explorer and land surveyor, known for his significant contributions to the early mapping and development of New South Wales. Born in 1775, he played a crucial role in opening up the region for settlement and agriculture. His work included the construction of roads and bridges, which facilitated travel and trade.
Cox is perhaps best remembered for the Coxs River, named in his honor, and for his involvement in the Coxs Road, which connected the Blue Mountains to the Hawkesbury River. His efforts greatly impacted the expansion of European settlements in Australia during the early 19th century.
