Wilford Woodruff
Wilford Woodruff was the fourth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), serving from 1887 until his death in 1898. Born on March 1, 1807, in Farmington, Connecticut, he became a prominent leader and missionary within the church. Woodruff is known for his role in the establishment of the church in the western United States and for overseeing the construction of the Salt Lake Temple.
During his presidency, Woodruff issued the 1890 Manifesto, which officially ended the practice of polygamy among Latter-day Saints. This decision was significant in the church's efforts to gain statehood for Utah and improve its public image. His leadership helped shape the modern LDS Church and its policies.
