Whooping Cough
Whooping Cough, also known as Pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. It is characterized by severe coughing fits that can make it difficult to breathe. The name "whooping cough" comes from the distinctive "whoop" sound made when a person inhales after a coughing episode.
The disease primarily affects infants and young children, but it can also impact older children and adults. Vaccination is the best way to prevent whooping cough, and the DTaP vaccine is commonly given to children. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to reduce the severity of symptoms and prevent the spread of the infection.
