Whitefish Point Light Station
The Whitefish Point Light Station is located on the northern shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Established in 1849, it serves as a navigational aid for ships traveling through the often treacherous waters of the Great Lakes. The lighthouse stands at 80 feet tall and is one of the oldest operating lighthouses in the United States.
The light station is part of the Whitefish Point State Historic Site, which includes a museum dedicated to the history of shipwrecks in the area, particularly the famous Edmund Fitzgerald. Visitors can explore the lighthouse, learn about maritime history, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape.
