Western Armenians
Western Armenians are the descendants of Armenians who lived in the western regions of historical Armenia, particularly in areas that are now part of Turkey. This group experienced significant cultural and linguistic influences from their surroundings, leading to distinct dialects and traditions within the broader Armenian community.
The term "Western Armenian" also refers to the dialect of the Armenian language spoken by these communities. Following the Armenian Genocide in 1915, many Western Armenians were displaced, leading to a diaspora that spread across the globe, particularly to countries like France and the United States.
