Weingarten
Weingarten refers to a legal principle in the United States that allows employees to request union representation during investigatory interviews. This right is named after the 1975 Supreme Court case, NLRB v. Weingarten, Inc., which established that employees could have a union representative present if they believed the interview could lead to disciplinary action.
The Weingarten rights apply primarily to unionized workplaces and are designed to protect employees from unfair treatment. When an employee invokes these rights, the employer must inform the representative of the meeting's purpose and allow them to participate in the discussion.
