Weakside Linebacker
The Weakside Linebacker (often abbreviated as WLB) is a defensive position in American football. This player typically lines up on the side of the field opposite the tight end, which is known as the weak side. The WLB's primary responsibilities include stopping the run, covering receivers, and providing support in pass defense.
In a standard defensive formation, the WLB must be agile and quick, as they often face faster offensive players. They work closely with the Strongside Linebacker (SLB) and the defensive backs to read plays and react accordingly. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for the WLB to succeed in their role.
