Waterkeepers
Waterkeepers are grassroots organizations dedicated to protecting and restoring water resources. They focus on ensuring clean water for communities, wildlife, and ecosystems. Each Waterkeeper is typically responsible for a specific water body, such as a river, lake, or coastal area, and works to monitor pollution, advocate for policy changes, and engage the public in conservation efforts.
Founded in the 1960s, the Waterkeeper movement has grown globally, with numerous local Waterkeepers operating under the umbrella of the Waterkeeper Alliance. These organizations often collaborate with other environmental groups and government agencies to promote sustainable practices and hold polluters accountable.
