Warsaw Uprising
The Warsaw Uprising was a major World War II resistance operation that took place in the city of Warsaw, Poland, from August 1 to October 2, 1944. It was led by the Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa) against the occupying Nazi German forces. The goal was to liberate the city before the arrival of the Soviet Army and to establish Polish sovereignty.
The uprising lasted for 63 days and involved intense urban warfare. Despite initial successes, the Polish fighters faced overwhelming German military power and were ultimately defeated. The aftermath saw significant destruction of the city and loss of life, with an estimated 200,000 civilians killed.
