War of the Holy League
The War of the Holy League (1684-1699) was a conflict between the Holy League, a coalition of Christian states, and the Ottoman Empire. The war aimed to curb Ottoman expansion in Europe, particularly in the Balkans. Key participants included the Austrian Habsburgs, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Venetian Republic.
The war saw significant battles, such as the Battle of Zenta in 1697, where the Holy League achieved a decisive victory. The conflict ended with the Treaty of Karlowitz in 1699, which marked a significant territorial loss for the Ottomans and established a new balance of power in Eastern Europe.
