Walter Dean Myers
Walter Dean Myers was an acclaimed American author known for his contributions to children's and young adult literature. Born on August 12, 1937, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he grew up in Harlem, New York City. Myers wrote over 100 books, including novels, picture books, and nonfiction, often focusing on themes of identity, race, and the challenges faced by young people.
His most famous works include Monster, which won the Michael L. Printz Award, and Fallen Angels, a powerful story about the Vietnam War. Myers received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Coretta Scott King Award and the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement. He passed away on July 1, 2014.
