W. Averell Harriman
W. Averell Harriman was an American businessman and politician born on November 15, 1891. He was a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and served as the Governor of New York from 1955 to 1958. Harriman was also known for his role as a diplomat, particularly during and after World War II, where he worked to strengthen international relations.
In addition to his political career, Harriman was a successful financier and played a significant role in the development of the Union Pacific Railroad. He was involved in various philanthropic efforts and was a key supporter of the arts and education throughout his life. Harriman passed away on July 26, 1986.
