Volga Bulgars
The Volga Bulgars were a medieval Turkic people who settled along the Volga River in present-day Russia. They established a powerful state known as Volga Bulgaria around the 7th century, which became a significant center for trade and culture. The Volga Bulgars were known for their interactions with neighboring peoples, including the Kievan Rus and the Khazars.
The Volga Bulgars converted to Islam in the 10th century, making them one of the first Turkic groups to adopt the religion. Their society was marked by a blend of Turkic, Slavic, and Islamic influences, contributing to the rich cultural heritage of the region. The state eventually declined in the 13th century due to the Mongol invasions.
