Volcán Cerro Negro
Volcán Cerro Negro is an active volcano located in Nicaragua, near the city of León. It is one of the youngest volcanoes in Central America, having formed in 1850. The volcano is known for its black, volcanic sand and steep slopes, making it a popular destination for adventure tourism, particularly for volcano boarding.
The volcano stands at approximately 726 meters (2,385 feet) above sea level. Its eruptions are typically mild, with the last significant activity occurring in 1999. Visitors can hike to the summit for stunning views of the surrounding landscape and other nearby volcanoes, such as Volcán San Cristóbal.
