Vladimir Voevodsky
Vladimir Voevodsky was a prominent Russian mathematician known for his groundbreaking work in the fields of algebraic geometry and homotopy theory. Born on September 4, 1966, he made significant contributions to the development of motivic homotopy theory, which connects algebraic geometry with topology. His innovative ideas earned him the prestigious Fields Medal in 2002.
Voevodsky was also a passionate advocate for the use of computers in mathematics, promoting the development of formal proof systems. He founded the Univalent Foundations Program at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, aiming to create a new foundation for mathematics based on homotopy type theory. He passed away on January 30, 2017.
