Vladimir Ivanovich Dal was a prominent Russian lexicographer, ethnographer, and writer, born on November 22, 1801, in the city of Lugansk. He is best known for compiling the first comprehensive dictionary of the Russian language, known as the "Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language," which was published in multiple volumes between 1863 and 1866. His work significantly contributed to the understanding and preservation of the Russian language.
Dal was also a passionate collector of folklore and folk tales, which he documented in his writings.
