Viscounties
A viscounty is a historical administrative division in England, typically governed by a viscount. It is a rank in the British peerage system, which is below an earl and above a baron. Viscounts often manage land and local affairs within their viscounty, contributing to the governance of the region.
Viscounties were established in the medieval period and played a role in the feudal system. They are often associated with specific geographical areas, and their boundaries can vary. Today, the title of viscount is still used in the British nobility, but the administrative function of viscounties has largely diminished.
