Viscountcy
A viscountcy is a rank in the British nobility, positioned below a count or earl and above a baron. The title of viscount was first created in the 15th century and is often associated with land ownership and social status. A viscount may hold a specific territory or estate, and the title can be inherited or granted by the monarch.
Viscounts are addressed as "The Right Honourable" and their wives as "The Right Honourable Viscountess." The title can also be used in other countries with similar noble systems, but the British system is the most recognized. The role of a viscount has historically included responsibilities in local governance and representation in the House of Lords.
