Visceral Nerves
Visceral nerves are a type of nerve that primarily transmit signals from the internal organs, such as the heart, lungs, and digestive system, to the brain. They play a crucial role in regulating bodily functions, including heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate. These nerves are part of the autonomic nervous system, which operates largely unconsciously.
These nerves can be divided into two main categories: sympathetic nerves and parasympathetic nerves. The sympathetic nerves prepare the body for "fight or flight" responses, while the parasympathetic nerves promote "rest and digest" activities. Together, they help maintain homeostasis and respond to changes in the internal environment.
